A munkásnőből lett fiatal énekesnő, Sunny egy haknizenekarral járja a szürke keletnémet vidék kocsmáit és kultúrházait. Szólókarrierről álmodozik, de a művészetben és a magánéletben is csalódások érik. A szomszédok feljelentik, a férfiak csak le akarják fektetni,

Sunny, who has graduated from being a simple worker to become a singer, tours the pubs and cultural halls of grey East Germany with her second-rate band. She dreams of a solo career but faces disappointments in both her chosen profession and private life. The neighbours report her, all the men just want to get laid and move on, her audiences are indifferent, and in the end the band boots her out. Yet despite all the failures Sunny remains determined to reach her goals. Konrad Wolf’s last film that paints an honest, disillusioning picture of everyday life in the GDR from the perspective of an authentic heroine, became a cult movie and box office smash. Renate Krößner is a triumph in the title role; she walked away with a Silver Bear trophy from the 1980 Berlinale.
